Happy July! Six months into the year. Wow, that went hella quick and fast. When I think of July I think, Fourth of July, BBQs, going to the beach, camping, and going to the Hollywood Bowl. Sounds like alot of sun, right? I do not know about yall, but I have to keep my skin protect. One thing I used to hear when I was younger was, “Youre black, you dont need sun skincare.” Well, family and friends, though I may be black I can still can get skin cancer. I have been cautious with my skin for about five years now. This may be extra, but in the Summer I used to wear pants and long sleeve shirts so I wouldnt be exposed to the sun (even in Arizona I did this). Crazy, right? Now, I can get away with it because I live in California. Here are a few things you did not know about sunscreen, and why we need it.
Does SPF make a difference? Yes. The SPF number tells you how long the sun’s UV radiation would take to redden your skin when using the product exactly as directed versus the amount of time without any sunscreen. So ideally, with SPF 30 it would take you 30 times longer to burn than if you weren’t wearing sunscreen. Personally, I would say, re-apply ever 1.5 hours to keep from burning. That includes your face and hands.
Is your Sunscreen Coral Safe? You are probably thinking, what is this mess your talking about now? A large part of Coral beaching is from toxins in SUNSCREEN. WHAAATTTT? Yes! This is something I would HIGHLY RECOMMEND to you all to start thinking about. You love going to the beach, right? If you love the beach, you should love the coral. The coral is a wall from the ocean to land. Think about it, What stops the storms? The coral. What helps our little fishy to have homes? The coral. We need the coral more than we think. So stop using Oxybenzone.
Here are few of my favorite sunscreens I want to share with you. These sunscreens are either
free of oxybenzone (Coral Safe)
(May not contain all)
cruelty-free, eco-friendly, and Natural
Cruelty-Free, Coral Safe
Cruelty Free, Coral Safe, and Gluten-Free
